Brunswick Hills family’s 2 cats, 2 dogs die in house fire

BRUNSWICK HILLS, Ohio (WOIO) - A Brunswick Hills house fire claimed the lives of a family's two cats and two dogs, the fire department confirmed.

The City of Brunswick Communications Center got the call that a house in the 800 block of Substation Road had flames and smoke coming out the front window at 6:45 p.m. on Oct. 16, BHFD said.

The Brunswick Hills Fire Department said it was immediately sent to the scene with the City of Brunswick and Hinkley Township fire departments.

BHFD said more neighboring agencies were called to help as additional calls were received.

Crews arrived to find an active fire in the front living room of a single-story ranch home, according to BHFD.

The only person who was in the house at the time of the fire was already outside, said BHFD, but several pets were still inside.

" Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control and located several pets," BHFD described. "Despite efforts to resuscitate, the family's pets two cats and two dogs perished in the fire."

BHFD said smoke detectors alerted that one person who was in the home.

EMS treated them at the scene for minor injuries, according to BHFD.

The Red Cross was on scene to help the homeowners with clothing and other needs, said BHFD.

The Medina County Fire Investigation Task Force is investigating the cause of the blaze per protocol.

"he Brunswick Hills Fire Department would like to remind the community to verify that smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors are working properly as we enter the home heating season," BHFD stated.
