Brush golf sending three to 2A state tournament

K.Thompson57 min ago

Brush boys golf may not have been able to win a full-team qualification at its Class 2A Region 3 tournament last week, but the Beetdiggers got their own business done with three individual qualifications at Murphy Creek Golf Course in Aurora last week.

Per CHSAA guidelines, the top two teams from each regional will qualify their full squads for the state tournament. The top 13 individuals who fall outside those two programs will also move forward.

In total, the top 21 golfers from the region earned a bid to The Club at Rolling Hills in Golden on Monday and Tuesday.

Brush junior Ben Mettlen lit the path forward for the Diggers, carding a 12-over-par 84 that earned him 10th place. He paced just one stroke ahead of sophomore Logan Snyder, but that was enough to push him back to a tie for 14th.

Junior Keeton Jilek earned the last spot for the Diggers, garnering a score of 88 and a spot at 21st.

Fort Morgan golf ends its run at regionals

Fort Morgan's boys golf team may have played host during the Class 3A Region 3 tournament last week, but the Mustangs found themselves snubbed from advancing any further.

Thanks to some incredibly tough competition, the Mustangs fell out of the necessary boundaries to send any individual golfer to the 3A state tournament, which is set to be held at Walking Stick Golf Course in Pueblo on Monday and Tuesday.

According to CHSAA guidelines, the top two teams from each regional will advance their full squads, and the 13 individuals that don't fall within either of those two programs will get the chance to make their mark at state as well. Each region sends 21 players to the state tournament.

Fort Morgan sophomore Ricky Smith came tantalizingly close to paving his way forward. He tied for 17th with a score of 84, but ultimately lost the playoff that qualified Roosevelt's Tatum Baker, Thompson Valley's Michael Jennings and Berthoud's Ezra Keller for the big show.
