BUCKHANNON, W.Va. (WBOY) — Jenkins Ford in Buckhannon held a car show on Saturday to help fund research for pancreatic cancer, the third highest cause of cancer deaths in the United States according to the National Cancer Institute .

Jenkins Ford Sales Manager Dennis Crawford said that this particular fundraiser is personal to staff at the dealership, who lost one of its former employees to Pancreatic Cancer in 2007.

"We had an employee, it was his very first job here years ago, and he worked for John, Mr. Jenkins about seven years, and later on as he moved on, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and he passed away, lost his life," Crawford said. "So his sister Annette has picked up the torch and she got with Mr. Jenkins and two years ago we decided to do something about it."

Cars at the show were judged, with owners of the top 20 receiving a trophy for their work. Besides the car show, the fundraiser kept attendees entertained with food trucks, music, 50/50, gun raffles and a live auction.

As of 5:48 p.m., the car show has raised $11,562; that number is expected to increase once organizers reach a final total.

Although the car show might be over, the need for pancreatic cancer research will continue for many years. You can visit the website of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PANCAN), the beneficiary of Saturday's car show, to find out how you can make a difference in pancreatic cancer research.
