Burglars leave behind $15k in damages at East Memphis store

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Officers foiled an early morning break-in at an East Memphis convenience store after the owner got an alert on his phone, police say.

The owner of Prescott Mart on Sharpe Avenue said he received an alarm notification just before 3 a.m. and saw two men on video enter the closed business.

When police arrived, they said the suspects were still inside and trying to get into an ATM. When the suspects saw the officers, they exited through a hole they had made in the building.

After a foot chase, police took Marcaidus Dishmon, 43, into custody. Dishmon was charged with burglary of a business and vandalism between $10,000 and $60,000.

Officers said the burglars also damaged an interior bathroom door and the ATM. The owner of Prescott Market estimated the damage to be around $15,000.

Dishmon is being held on an $85,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday. Investigators are still looking for the other suspect.
