Buying BRT tickets causes headaches for older riders -- Robert Palmer

Madison's new Bus Rapid Transit has been in the news a lot.

I was dismayed to discover that a person who is eligible for a reduced fare (such as a senior citizen) cannot get the discount when buying a single ticket at the new terminals. The machines will only sell full price fares.

And those who go online to use the new Fast Fare cards will not be able to claim their status online without going to the Madison Metro Transit office or arranging to mail or email copies of proof of eligibility.

It was suggested I make a copy of my Medicare card. Well, that isn't going to happen for security's sake. Other organizations in Madison, such as the Overture Center, allow senior citizens to purchase tickets online using the honor system.

BRT is causing nothing but more work and more headaches for riders.
