Sixty farmers purchased 18,500 pounds of explosives at cost from St. Louis County in the past two days, with some individual farmers purchasing as much as 1,000 pounds. The average farmer purchased 200-300 pounds.

Duluth attorney Arthur M. Clure was elected president of the Duluth Port Authority during the organization's first formal meeting in the Duluth City Hall. Clure said the authority's main policy will be to determine how the city can benefit from the S t. Lawrence Seaway, which he termed the "dawn for our area."

George Stoyanoff, owner of the Buffalo House Restaurant & Bar in rural Duluth, is blaming hunters for the disappearance of his Great Dane. If he is correct, this would be the third time one of his dogs was shot by hunters trespassing on his land.
