Bygones: Skeptics had questions about First Street bricks in 1984

In a speech at the Shrine Auditorium in Duluth, Thomas D. Schall and Victor L. Power, Republican candidates for U.S. Senate and the 8th Congressional District, respectively, spoke to about 3,000 people. Schall credited the votes of women for "driving the fakers from the political field."

So far this year, one person was killed in a Duluth traffic accident every 462.6 hours, according to police records. So far this year, 15 people have died on Duluth streets, the highest number since 1951. October is historically one of the deadliest months for crashes in the city.
