Cadillac’s Maple Hill Cemetery receives donation of chain restoring historic entrance

CADILLAC — The City of Cadillac is set to receive a donation of over 1000 feet of plastic chain to replace the chain removed from Maple Hill Cemetery during WWII.

According to a Sept. 18 news release, the donation comes from Mr. Chain , a Michigan-based company.

The new chain will be used to restore the original North entrance off Mitchell Street and act as a barrier to the steep terrain on the north side.

"The donation will restore a piece of history from nearly 80 years ago," Maple Hill Cemetery director Adam M. Hilt said.

According to its website, Mr. Chain was founded by World War II Mustang Ace, Michael T. Russo. The company is a leading plastic chain manufacturer in the United States.

Maple Hill Cemetery is owned and operated by the City of Cadillac and has approximately 12,000 interments.

The earliest interment records began in 1883. Veterans from the Civil War on have been interred in Maple Hill Cemetery.
