Cambridge museum to work on accessibility pilot project

A museum at the University of Cambridge said it was "excited" to start a series of workshops to make it a more accessible place for people with disabilities.

The Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology has been selected to be part of pilot research project The Sensational Museum , which looks to offer all visitors memorable, inclusive, engaging and enjoyable experiences.

Sarah-Jane Harknett, head of public engagement and learning at the Cambridge museum, said it would work with local people to "shape not just this museum, but museum practice".

She said a number of people with disabilities would take part in four workshops in September and October, to develop a "gallery intervention".

"It will be the ideas from the participants that will really help make it more engaging, more accessible, just better for lots of different people," she said.

"It's really exciting, it's really special for us to be part of this project, and to be able to work with a group of people who will be able to have their chance to really shape, not just this museum, but museum practice across all museums."
