Can you still vote after polls close in NYC? Things to know

NEW YORK (PIX11) — On Tuesday, voters will decide on the presidential race as well as races for the U.S. Senate, the U.S. House of Representatives, the state legislature, and more.

Voting sites in New York open at 6 a.m. and close at 9 p.m.

The Board of Elections has released an Election Day wait time map to help voters plan their visits to the voting sites.

The map may show how long you will wait at your chosen site, but what happens if you are still in line when your voting site closes?

According to the Board of Elections' manual for poll workers , even though polls close at 9 p.m., any voter in line by 9 p.m. is still entitled to vote. A police officer will ensure no one joins the line after 9 p.m.
