DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — A fire response was needed after a vehicle hit a deer on Tuesday morning.

A car crash was reported Tuesday morning along Old US-35 after a vehicle hit a deer while driving. Deer-involved crashes are especially common around this time of year, as it's deer mating season.

Silvercreek Township Fire Chief Steve Payton told 2 NEWS the vehicle hit the deer and soon after burst into flames. Fire crews were called to the scene to extinguish the fire.

Payton confirms the vehicle was not electric — the fire started due to the impact of the collision.

According to the National Highway Safety Administration, approximately 1.5 million deer-vehicle crashes occur in the United States each year.
