Car bursts into flames, closing FDR Drive in Manhattan

MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) – A car caught on fire on FDR Drive overnight, completely stalling traffic on FDR Drive, according to officials.

The car set fire around 1:47 a.m. Monday near FDR Drive and East 62nd Street, according to the FDNY. The fire was extinguished and no one was injured, fire officials said.

Videos posted to Citizen show flames billowing out of the burnt car while around a dozen firefighters work. Cars wait on in standstill traffic behind, videos show.

The blaze closed all northbound lanes of FDR Drive near 78th Street. The road reopened around 3 a.m. but delays were expected to linger, according to New York City Emergency Management.
