Carnew Emmets prove fantastic hosts of Féile Peil na nÓg regional finals Heavy rain couldn't spoil a superb day at Co. Wicklow club

Carnew Emmets played host to seven LGFA clubs for what was a superb day of Féile Peil na nÓg action despite the incessant rain that fell last Saturday.

Teams from Laois, Meath, Tipperary, Carlow, Kildare, Offaly and Antrim made the trip to the Wexford border to do battle in the regional competition, with the Co. Wicklow club turning on the style by offering warm welcomes to one and all and providing for their every need on the day.

The home side were drawn in a group alongside Ballyfin from Laois, Na Fianna from Meath and Tipperary's Cappawhite.

In the second group, Carlow's St. Andrew's, Kildare's Cappagh, St. Rynaghs from Offaly and Creggan from Antrim locked horns.

After some really entertaining games, the Carnew Emmets side found themselves in the Shield final against the Cappawhite team, but unfortunately, despite putting in a savage effort, it was the Premier County side who emerged victorious.

In the Cup competition, it was Offaly's St. Rynagh's who navigated an extremely competitive field before finally coming out on top of Kildare's Cappagh in the decider.

"Míle buíochas to the seven teams that travelled to Carnew from Meath, Offaly, Tipperary, Antrim, Laois, Kildare and Carlow to compete in absolute horrendous rainfall conditions in the regional Féile Peil na nÓg tournament," said the Carnew Emmets club.

"We are especially proud of our own tenacious girls who were beaten in the Shield final by Cappawhite, Tipperary, after a nail-biting game which until the final whistle, our girls showed some stick-to-it-iveness determination.

"A massive thanks to the officials and volunteers on the day who ensured the day ran smoothly!

"Congrats to the Cup and Shield winners. Super display of football," they added.
