Caroline Stella Hess, 75, of West Butler Drive, Drums, passed away unexpectedly Friday morning at her home.
Born in Sugarloaf, October 2, 1932, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary (Bartel) Broton. She spent the past 55 years in Drums after moving from Sugarloaf.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, St. Johns. She was a homemaker. She was a loving mother and grandmother, who enjoyed spending time with her family.
Mrs. Hess passed away on the same day as her husband of the past 55 years, George I. Hess. She was also preceded in death, by a daughter, Bambi Lee Hess, who passed away in 1961; and a brother, Robert Broton.
Surviving are two children, George C. Hess and his wife, Pat, and Julie Kostyal and her husband, Joe, all of Drums; six grandchildren, Amanda and Erika Hess; and Alyona, Taylor, Travis and Matthew Kostyal; two sisters, Dorothy Roth, Drums; and Mary Jane Lipinski, Hazleton; and several nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be held, along with that of her husband, at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday from Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (East),669 W. Butler Drive, Drums, with her pastor, Sister Janet Stump, officiating. Burial will follow alongside her husband in St. John’s Lutheran & UCC Cemetery, St. Johns. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
