Carson’s Franco named 5A’s top player
Carson's High Abby Franco showcased her talents all season for the Senator volleyball team and was rewarded by being named the Class 5A North volleyball player of the year.
Franco led the league in kills and was a six-rotation player, corralling digs off the back line and rarely leaving the floor at all.
As a sophomore, Franco was a second team all-region selection, proving her talent has continued to progress in her first season as an upperclassmen.
The Senator junior finished with 247 kills — averaging essentially four per set — 28 aces, 37 blocks and 106 total digs.
Douglas High senior Sumer Williams earned a first-team all-region nod for her play at libero.
Williams, who missed time due to injury last season, led Class 5A across the state in digs this season with 441. She also posted a team-high 58 aces while serving. Williams was a second-team selection as a junior.
HONORABLE MENTION
Douglas' Parker Estes nearly kept pace with Franco in terms of kills from her outside hitter position.
Estes averaged three kills per set to cap off her final season in orange and black.
The outgoing senior tallied 31 aces for Douglas.
Carson sophomore Emma Sanders rounded out the 5A North all-region selections.
Sanders was a pivotal piece for the Senators this season, tallying 192 kills, 47 aces and 137 digs. It marks her first appearance on the all-region teams.
