CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (KDVR) — Clover's Closet, a Castle Rock nonprofit that helps provide teens with free dresses and formal attire for homecoming and prom was hit by a robbery on Sunday.

The thieves took nearly the entirety of the nonprofit's pop-up makeup supply and some accessories. Owner Karen Davis says her and her employees didn't notice until the end of their shift.

"I went over to the makeup area and I noticed that the trays are just empty and my heart just sank because I know someone just emptied the trays in their bag and walked out the door," Davis said.

On the surface, it may not seem like a that much, but it's a large impact on the closet, since they are a nonprofit and rely on donations. Of course, all of the items when the teens coming in the store are free, but are limited.

"That's the hardest part is that we're giving it away for free, there's no reason to steal it. So, it's hard for me to wrap my mind around it. We're a small nonprofit, the funds we do have will get wrapped up in doing these events, it's a lot of overhead for us, so we don't necessarily have the means to replace all of that stuff," Davis said.

Clover's Closet's mission is to take cost out of the equation. The pop-up shop located in Downtown Castle Rock opened last Friday and is open for the next two weekends. It's their fifth year doing the pop up.

"When the parents come in and they're so happy because they might not have been able to afford a dress and now their child gets to go to the dance, and they are profoundly thankful and that's just hugely rewarding for me. It was needed in the community and it's a great mission to bring equity to all students. So, everybody has a chance to go and be a kid," Davis said.

Thankfully, they received a donation from Sephora Tuesday, to do a little restocking. But they're still a bit unsettled with six more days of the pop-up shop. Davis says their goal is to have the opportunity to find a community partner for Clover's Closet so these instances don't set them back as much.
