The second annual Catasauqua trunk or treat was held Oct. 19 at Catasauqua Park and Playground, 501 American St. The event is hosted by Catasauqua Police Department.

The fun event began 6 p.m., with a long line of kids and their families waiting for the start at the park's parking lot. The energy and excitement were palpable, as smiling kids and parents joyously roamed the area seeking candy and fun.

Mayor Barbara Schlegel and Councilwoman Kim Brubaker with her husband, Andrew, were present to support Catasauqua children and families have a safe, fun event. Retired former police Chief Douglas Kish also attended.

Alexis Adams, of Catasauqua, dressed in a multicolored skeleton costume with a bright wig and an abundance of makeup. Her car featured a Dia de los Muertos theme.

D.H. Productions, a popular deejay service in the area, attended to give out treats.

Trunk or treating is a Halloween alternative to trick or treating where children collect candy from decorated cars in a parking lot. Trunk or treating originally began around 1994. It is also known as Halloween tailgating.

Kids dress up in their costumes and walk from one car to the next, seeking candy and occasionally receiving a small scare.
