atherine Wiorkowski, former West Side resident, died Tuesday at the Meadows
Nursing Center, Dallas.
Born June 19, 1915, in Scranton, she was a daughter of the late Ellsworth
and Anastasia (Laskowski) Michalek. She attended the Scranton schools, was a
seamstress in the local garment industry and worked for the Scranton School
District. She was a member of St. Peter and Paul’s Church, West Side, its
Altar and Rosary Society and the Polish Women’s Alliance Club, co-founder and
member of the West Scranton Senior Citizens Club.
Surviving are her son, Robert, Taylor; daughter, Kathiecq Trescavage,
Shavertown, Kingston Township; four grandchildren; sisters, Helen Snopkowski,
Scranton; Jeannecq Telesz, Old Forge; and Mary Labishak, Baltimore; brothers,
Joseph Michalek, Bloomfield, N.J.; and Hank Michalek, Linden, N.J.; nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Frances Janczyk and Wanda Zupon;
and brother, Tony.
The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Friday from the Catherine Y. Zabielski
Funeral Home, 941 S. Main Ave., Scranton, with a Mass at 9:30 a.m. at St.
Peter and Paul’s Church. Interment will be in parish cemetery, Taylor. Friends
may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
