B.Wilson1 hr ago
A large barn fire that could be seen from more than five miles away is being tackled by crews.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said 10 pumps were at the blaze on Hagg Lane in Cawood, near Selby, at its height in the early hours, but their attendance has since been scaled back.

Residents were requested to keep their doors and windows closed.

A statement said: "Our crews are working hard to bring the fire under control."

BBC Radio York presenter Jeremy Buxton said he could see a "bright orange glow in the sky" while driving between Sherburn in Elmet and Cawood at 01:30 BST.

The fire began at around 23:15 BST on Friday at the farm near Cawood Common.

Firefighters said "multiple" agricultural buildings containing livestock and straw were alight.

Crews assisted the farmer to move the animals to safety.

Nearby roads have been shut and the incident remained "ongoing" this morning.
