Cedar Park officials broke ground Wednesday on a $30 million Public Safety Joint Training Facility.

The complex, funded through a 2022 voter-approved bond program, will serve as a consolidated training hub for police, fire, and emergency management personnel. Located at 1200-1204 Fire Lane, the facility will comprise three buildings totaling nearly 35,000 square feet.

"This is a game-changer for our department and the community we serve," Police Chief Mike Harmon said at the groundbreaking ceremony. "This investment in our personnel directly translates to a safer, more resilient community."

The project includes a 17,000-square-foot main training facility with classrooms and the city's first dedicated Emergency Operations Center, a 10,000-square-foot fitness and simulation training building, and a 7,700-square-foot apparatus bay for emergency vehicles.

Fire Chief James Mallinger emphasized the facility's role in improving cross-training between departments. "The facility will allow for seamless classroom instruction and the ability to practice skills immediately," he said.

Construction is expected to begin this fall, with completion targeted for spring 2026. The facility was designed by Hoefer Welker and will be built by Core Construction.
