Centennial earns Mater Dei rematch after upsetting Mission Viejo

Corona (Calif.) and Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei last went head-to-head on the opening night of the season. Mater Dei won handily, 42-25, but Centennial was without standout five-star quarterback Husan Longstreet

Against a Mission Viejo defensive secondary that included five-star Alabama commit Dijon Lee , Longstreet was 17-of-23 passing for 216 yards and a touchdown last Friday. He added 52 yards and a score on the ground.

In nine games this season, Longstreet has thrown for over 1,600 yards and 19 touchdowns with another 494 yards and six scores on the ground. Arizona State Cory Butler Jr. is Longstreet's leading receiver this season with 941 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns.

Centennial jumps in rankings ahead of showdown with Mater Dei

With the win over previously 8th-ranked Mission Viejo, Centennial leapt into the national top 10 of the On3 Composite High School Football Team Ranking. Sitting atop that ranking is the Huskies' next opponent, Mater Dei.

When Centennial and Mater Dei met in the season opener, four-star running back commit Jordon Davison ran for 122 yards and a touchdown, averaging 6.6 yards per carry. Davison gets to run behind a stout offensive line that includes elite Ducks offensive tackle commit Kodi Greene Sione Tohi

The Monarchs' defensive secondary should prove to be a difficult challenge for Longstreet. It is loaded with talent the likes of Alabama commit Chuck McDonald and Penn State commit Daryus Dixson .

In its quarterfinal game, Mater Dei defeated Sierra Canyon 33-13.
