Robinson 49, Glen Rose 42

GLEN ROSE — The Rockets (3-1) kept pace with the Class 4A Div. II second-ranked Tigers (3-1) throughout the game before shattering ahead for the win in the final quarter.

It goes down as a huge statement victory for Chris Lancaster's squad.

Evan Moreno had a breakout night for Robinson, rushing for 294 yards on 37 carries and five touchdowns, as well as bringing down a 69-yard touchdown reception. Out of Robinson's 610 all-purpose yards, the junior accounted for 472 of them, adding 109 kick return yards.

The lone Rockets' score that didn't come at the hands of Moreno was a TD rush by sophomore Cash Cleere.

Sophomore kicker Sergio Guerrero aced all seven extra points.

Robinson quarterback Brice McCurdy hit 10 of 16 for 173 yards and a touchdown and an interception.

But the Rockets picked off Glen Rose QB Canyon Evans twice themselves. Evans threw for 269 yards and four touchdowns. On the ground, the Tigers were led by Keltyn Raymond with 102 yards on five carries and a touchdown while Brodey Bowman caught 126 yards on five receptions and two scores.

Robinson will host Hillsboro (2-2) in its final non-district contest next week before making the trip to Lorena.

Alvarado 55, Connally 42

ALVARADO — The Cadets (3-1) took their first loss of the season as Alvarado outscored them, 20-7, in the final quarter.

The contest was tied at 35-35 after three quarters as Connally fought back with 22 points in the second half.

Jamarion Vincent threw for a pair of touchdowns, and also rushed for 94 yards on 18 carries and a ran in a score. Defensively, he recovered a fumble and scored a defensive touchdown, adding five tackles, four solo.

Cyrus Evans brought in one of those touchdown receptions, posting four catches for 70 yards and rushing 47 yards on three carries and a touchdown.

Daniel Hancock led the defense with 11 tackles, four solo and one for a loss. Cadyn Cash added five tackles, one solo, an interception, a defensive touchdown and a pass breakup.

The Cadets wrap up non-district with a contest against Athens next week before taking a bye week to prepare for the district opener at China Spring.

Fairfield 28, Buffalo 24

BUFFALO — The Eagles (2-2) got the fourth quarter push they needed to get past the Bison with a four-point win.

Junior quarterback Kohl Collins threw for 270 yards and four touchdowns for Fairfield. Junior receiver Kavion Hicks brought down 178 yards on nine receptions, two of them for touchdowns. The other two scores went to senior Jaylon Shed. The senior was also responsible for a two-point conversion rush.

A trip to McGregor will close out the non-district slate before the Eagles head down the street to Teague following a bye week.

Gatesville 59, McGregor 14

GATESVILLE — The Hornets (3-1) got off to an early 28-0 lead in the first quarter and held the Bulldogs (0-4) to just two scores.

Rayshon Smith was once again the leader on the ground, rushing for 173 yards and four touchdowns. Gehrig Keeton passed for 210 yards and three touchdowns while hitting 75% of his attempts, with two of those scores secured by Amos Phillips, who had 90 reception yards on six catches.

Cy Burns added an 87-yard touchdown dash for Gatesville.

McGregor quarterback Bubba Zacharias hit 18 of 24 for 198 yards and a touchdown to Dominic Madron, who had 111 reception yards on 10 catches. The Bulldogs' other score was punched on a 9-yard run by Alex Zunija.

Lorena 26, Cameron Yoe 13

CAMERON — The Leopards (1-3) found the win column for the first time this season in a matchup of previously winless teams against the Yoemen (0-4).

Cameron had a 13-6 lead heading into the break, but Lorena came out to hold the Yoemen scoreless in the second half while it strung together 20 unanswered points.

Sophomore quarterback Jaxon Blancett attacked both on the ground and through the air, totaling 105 passing yards while rushing for 208 yards on 18 carries and three touchdowns. Brody Deleon added a TD rush, running for 45 yards on eight carries.

Lorena's Caleb Carrizales brought down 49 yards on three receptions and Seth Taverner added a 37-yard catch while adding six tackles, five solo and one for a loss, and 1.5 sacks with Demarcus Winters assisting on the second sack.

Bemjamin Lima led the Leopard defense with 10 tackles, six solo. Cooper Key added seven tackles, three solo, and two sacks while Jackson Blackwell got the fifth. Deleon added eight tackles, three solo.

The Leopards travel to Lampasas before taking a bye week to prepare for the district opener against Robinson.

Maypearl 45, Riesel 13

RIESEL — After breaking out for 28 points in the second quarter, Maypearl (3-1) held Riesel (1-3) scoreless in the second half to secure the road win.

Payton Hoelscher threw for 89 yards and rushed for a first-quarter touchdown for Riesel. Arious Landrum brought down three receptions for 72 yards and added an 89-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the second quarter.

Greyson Oliver added 55 rushing yards on 10 carries.

Riesel will travel to Brazos Christian for a 7 p.m. contest next week before taking a bye week to gear up for the district opener against Rosebud-Lott.

Teague 28, Mexia 20

TEAGUE — The Lions (3-1) slipped by the Black Cats (1-3) in a non-district battle between longtime rivals and former district foes.

Teague's Ny'land Coaster led the ground battle with 143 yards on 17 carries and three touchdowns. Zak Leija followed with 65 rushing yards on eight carries while tossing 55 yards on 6 of 8 completions. J'Kybryen Harris came down with five receptions for 47 yards.

Defensively, Jaden Cole led the Lions' charge with 13 tackles, eight solo. Korey Silar was right behind with 10 tackles, seven solo, and Clifford Coleman added eight tackles, two for a loss.

Troy 68, Thrall 20

TROY — The Trojans (4-0) trounced the Tigers (3-1) in dominant fashion.

Joseph McMurtry launched four touchdowns on 11 of 15 completions for 231 passing yards. He hit four different receivers on those TDs. The running game worked well, too, as Jayden Lucky charged for 115 yards on eight carries for three touchdowns. Ryder Sommer added touchdown No. 8 on an 11-yard run.

Reed Ketcham led the receivers with six receptions for 168 yards and a score. Jake Smith was right behind with two catches for 34 yards and a TD while Wes Hill added a four-yard TD catch and a Cohen Ketcham reeled in a 12-yard score.

Grayson Bogausch led the Troy defense with nine tackles, six solo, and Tomas Lopez was right there with him with eight, four solo and three for a loss, while adding one of three Troy sacks. Chandler Milton and Tedricc Calhoun were responsible for the other two.

The Trojans also snatched three interceptions — Peyton Valdez, Micah McKissick and Joseph Tuck logged a combined 56 yards on pick returns.

Troy will close out the non-district slate on the road in Maypearl before taking a weekend off to prepare for district favorite Franklin.

Whitney 64, Rogers 13

WHITNEY — The Wildcats (3-1) held the Eagles scoreless for two quarters and allowed just two scores in the first and fourth quarters while building up to a 51-point victory.

Mason Seely had a strong night at quarterback for Whitney, passing for 288 yards on 12 of 15 completions with three touchdowns and added four carries for 48 yards and a TD. Jontae Johnson was back on his game with 209 yards on eight carries and four touchdowns while handling three receptions for 123 yards and two scores and returning a pair of kickoffs for 81 yards.

Defensively, Jordan McGill totaled 20 tackles for Whitney while Aiden Albright followed with eight tackles and a fumble recovery for a TD. KJ O'Hearn added nine tackles.

Whitney had one last test in Little River Academy before taking the bye week to prepare for Grandview in the district opener.

Bruceville-Eddy 14, Normangee 7

NORMANGEE — The Eagles (2-2) earned their second win of the season, bouncing back from a pair of losses.

Bruceville-Eddy held the Panthers (1-3) to one touchdown in the second quarter while getting ahead on a two-point completion and then added six-points in the third for the go-ahead score.

Jack Dockstader threw for 152 yards and a 44-yard touchdown pass to Langsten Bailey, as well as the conversion that got the Eagles ahead. Tyrell Horne added seven carries for 82 yards and a rushing score.

Bruceville-Eddy travels to Leon before opening the district slate against Moody on Oct. 11.
