CFA, local leaders look for hotel placement

Sep. 21—JEFFERSON — The Ashtabula County Board of Commissioners shared ideas regarding possible lodging to be built in the county earlier this week, said Commissioner Casey Kozlowski.

He said a Tuesday afternoon work session took place with the Ashtabula County Convention Facilities Authority, and included discussions of potential hotel placement.

Kozlowski said the commissioners mentioned their interest in a potential sportsman's lodge that could have a convention center component at Pymatuning State Park. He said discussions are in the early stages, but would eventually involve conversations with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

The CFA has been meeting in locations around the county to hear ideas on how to best develop the tourism market. The organization has commissioned a study to see how investment could multiply economic opportunities including investments in hotels.

An August meeting in Conneaut led to discussions of possible hotel construction at Lakeview Park or near Interstate 90.

The CFA has been seeking input from different parts of the county as they work to maximize investment of state and private resources.
