CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio - Not only will Chagrin Falls residents vote in the presidential election and cast a ballot for an Ohio Senator - they will also vote on a village operating renewal tax levy. Every five years the Village of Chagrin Falls asks residents to renew a 5.5 mill levy that funds police operations, fire and EMS services, and downtown park maintenance.

If voters pass the renewal of the levy, it will provide approximately $1.06 million in 2025. The levy was originally approved by voters in 1984 and has been renewed 7 times in the last 35 years. During that 35-year span, the millage of the levy has never increased. The 5.5 mill levy is the only voted real-estate tax that funds village operations.

Chagrin Falls Administration believes the tax renewal is necessary because it funds essential village services such as the police and fire departments, funds garbage collection, and road maintenance.

The ballot language for the renewal levy will read:

Proposed Tax Levy (Renewal) Village of Chagrin Falls. A majority affirmative vote is necessary for passage. A renewal of a tax for the benefit of the Village of Chagrin Falls for the purpose of current expenses that the County Fiscal Officer estimates will collect $1,064,000 annually, at a rate not exceeding 5.5 mills for each $1 of taxable value, which amounts to $120 for each $100,000 of the County Fiscal Officer's appraised value, for five years, commencing in 2024, first due in calendar year 2025.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
