SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – The hot and dry weather continued across the ArkLaTex this weekend. Expect some changes in the coming week with a few fronts possibly bringing some rain. It's possible that we could see a hurricane later this week in the Gulf of Mexico.

Temperatures have returned to above-normal levels across the ArkLaTex Sunday afternoon. The good news is that we will see a nice cooling trend over the next few days. Highs on Monday will mainly be in the 80s and low 90s. Lows Monday morning will likely begin in the low to middle 70s. The cooling trend will continue through the rest of the week with highs easing into the upper 70s to lower 80s and lows falling into the low to middle 60s.

Futurecast shows that we will see a partly cloudy sky over the ArkLaTex on Sunday night with some scattered showers possible over the northwest edge of the area late. The chance of scattered showers and thundershowers will begin to spread south during the day on Monday but will likely only reach as far south as I-20. The rain will probably decrease on Monday night. The focus of the scattered showers and thunderstorms will shift to East Texas and Northwest Louisiana on Tuesday with the rain probably most widespread south of I-20. The rain will likely decrease once again on Tuesday night.

We will likely see a tropical storm or hurricane develop or move into the Gulf of Mexico later this week. As of right now, most models show that this system will move toward the northeast with a possible landfall over Florida. If this path is verified, we will likely not see any impacts here in the ArkLaTex. Obviously, this system has yet to develop so changes in this outlook are likely.

Given the projected path of the tropical system, it appears that most of the the ArkLaTex will see below normal rainfall in the next ten days. Generally speaking, most of the area should expect to see 1⁄2 to 1" of rain. Given the scattered nature of the expected rain, we will have spots that receive one to over 2". Those areas should be rather isolated.
