Chappell Roan proves talk of her electric festival sets true at ACL

"If you have something pink, put it in the air, b****," Chappell Roan said to her first-ever ACL audience on Sunday night.

Roan proved the talk of her stage presence, electric energy and knack for keeping a festival audience engaged were no exaggeration. The singer took to the American Express stage right at her scheduled start of 6:45 p.m. She performed a swift, but powerful, 12-song set including nine songs from her latest album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, hit single "Good Luck Babe", a cover of "Barracuda" by Heart and her unreleased track "The Subway".

The audience, which built steadily throughout the day , spanned from the barricade to the ACL flags by the beginning of the set. Roan kicked off the set with "Femininomenon," then worked through "Naked in Manhattan" and "Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl" before the intro to "HOT TO GO!" sent screams of excitement through the crowd. Kids atop their parents' shoulders, circles of friends and the VIP section all danced to the festival hit.

Austin's skyline made for a beautiful backdrop to an equally beautiful performance. As Roan sang "After Midnight", "Barracuda", "Casual", "The Subway" and "Red Wine Supernova", the warm glow of the setting sun signaled the evening turning to night.

"I usually dedicate this song to my ex," Roan said before singing "My Kink is Karma". "But, I dedicate this song to my fucking theater teacher who kicked me out, b****!"

The singer's red and white outfit aligned well with the theme of the song — taking delight in an ex's downfall. Red fireworks illuminated the stage at the chorus, and an image of Roan with devil horns flashed on the screen to conclude the song.

Staying true to the evening's pink theme, Roan ended her set with "Pink Pony Club" before saying goodbye to ACL until next week.
