Charleston Fire Dept. extinguishes overnight house fire
CHARLESTON, Ill. (WCIA) — The Charleston Fire Department responded to a house fire Thursday night.
The fire happened on Davis Street near Lincoln Avenue. Chief Tim Meister said firefighters responded around 9:30 p.m. and found thick black smoke coming from the front door of the single-family home. An immediate box alarm was placed in order to bring more personnel to the scene.

Personnel from the Mattoon Fire Department, Charleston Police Department and Ameren were among those who responded to the scene. Firefighters eventually found the source of the fire in the home's laundry room and put it out. They remained on the scene for about two hours.
An investigation into the fire determined it was caused by an electrical issue.
