Another former Michigan staffer is out of his job as head coach.

Biff Poggi, the former Wolverines' associate head coach and right-hand man for Jim Harbaugh, was fired Monday by the University of Charlotte after just 22 games.

The move was announced Monday evening by school athletic director Mike Hill, following an "extensive review of the Charlotte football program."

"I am thankful to Biff Poggi for his leadership and mentorship of our student-athletes over these past two season," Hill said in a statement. "No one can question Biff's passion for helping young people succeed in life, both personally and professionally, but our on-field results have unfortunately fallen short of everyone's expectations."

Poggi was just 6-16 in his two seasons as head coach of the 49ers, who are currently 3-7 and in eighth place in the American Athletic Conference standings. They are coming off their fourth straight loss, a 59-24 defeat to South Florida.

Tim Brewster has been tapped as interim head coach for the last two games of the season.

Known for wearing cutoff shirts on the sideline, Poggi was hired by Charlotte to much fanfare in November 2022. It was his first head-coaching gig at the college level after a successful run as head coach at Saint Frances Academy, a college prep school in Baltimore.

He had two stints on Harbaugh's staff at Michigan, first as an analyst in 2016 and associate head coach and confidant in 2021 and '22. Several former Michigan players transferred to Charlotte to play for Poggi.

Poggi was the second former Michigan staffer fired today, after Don Brown was let go by the University of Massachusetts .
