Chatham County extends State of Emergency following Helene

CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) – Chairman Chester A. Ellis has extended the State of Emergency for Chatham County through Friday, October 4. This extension allows Chatham County to continue accessing necessary resources for recovery efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

Chatham County offices will remain closed on Monday, September 30. Non-essential personnel are advised to contact their supervisors for further instructions. The Judicial Courthouse and Juvenile Court will also be closed, and all dockets will be rescheduled. Chatham County employees should also call the Employee Disaster Line for the most up-to-date information.

Chatham County's critical workforce has been operating at full capacity, assessing nearly 100,000 households for damage. With many residents still without power, the County has set up cooling and charging stations, as well as ice distribution points throughout the area. Today, ice distribution at Memorial Stadium and L. Scott Stell Park served 3,088 vehicles, distributing 6,176 bags of ice.

  • Thunderbolt Fire Department – 2702 Mechanics Ave, Thunderbolt, GA Hours: 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM

  • Life Bridge Ministry – 48511 Waters Ave, Savannah, GA Hours: 1:00 PM – 7:00 PM

  • Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum – 175 Bourne Ave, Pooler, GA 31322 Hours: 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM

    The Coastal Georgia Department of Public Health has announced boil water advisories for the following areas in Chatham County:

  • Hunter's Ridge (West Chatham County)

  • Miller Pines

  • Ogeechee Farms

  • Oliver Pines

  • Pine Barren

  • Riverside Estates

  • Sandy Bluff

  • Power Outages:

    Approximately 70,293 households remain without power. Restoration efforts are ongoing, and residents can track updates on power outages through the Georgia Power Outage Map:
