Chicago police officer shot and killed in East Chatham, sources say

A Chicago police officer was shot and killed Monday night in the East Chatham neighborhood on the city's South Side, sources confirmed to NBC Chicago.
Details of the incident weren't immediately clear, but a large law enforcement presence was visible in the area of South Ingleside Avenue near East 82nd Street. The officer was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, sources said.
A large number of police vehicles, as well as dozens of Chicago police officers were visible outside the hospital in the hours following the shooting.
