Chicago's historic late-season warmth!

Thursday's 89-degree high, the 11th in a row, marks the longest late-season 80-degree or warmer spell on the books here since records began in 1871.

The 89-degree high temperature was also among the 5 warmest for September 19th of the past 75 years! But Chicago was not alone in the unseasonable warmth—temperatures were double digits above normal across a wide swath of the Midwest.

Updated 80-degree scorecard for 2024: note the all-time record for most 80s in a calendar year is 103 days set in 2005.
