CHP officers block wrong-way driver on 10 Freeway in Pomona area
California Highway Patrol officers used their vehicle to block a vehicle going the wrong way on the 10 Freeway in the Pomona area early Thursday, Nov. 7.
They arrested the motorist for allegedly driving drunk.
About 2:25 a.m., the CHP started getting reports about a wrong-way driver going west in the eastbound lanes near Milliken Avenue.
CHP units were dispatched. One of the black-and-whites created a traffic break, east of the 57 Freeway.
"The officers used their patrol vehicle to intentionally collide with the wrong-way driver's vehicle, successfully causing it to spin out," the CHP said in a statement. "The wrong-way vehicle then struck another civilian vehicle before coming to a complete stop. The impact also caused the CHP patrol vehicle to hit the concrete center divider."
The officers detained the suspect, and checked on the person struck in the secondary collision, who reported minor injuries, the CHP said.
The officers suffered minor injuries and were taken to a local medical clinic.
The accused wrong-way driver is a 22-year-old Pomona resident. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
