Christmas Tree lighting moved to Farmers Market
In an effort to provide a festive atmosphere with plenty of parking and due to the ongoing construction at Enterprise City Hall, Mayor William E. Cooper announced the annual Enterprise Christmas Tree Lighting will be held Thursday, Dec. 5 at the Enterprise Farmers Market located at 525 N. Main Street.
"The City of Enterprise is proud to light up the Christmas tree in a new location this year, with even more festive activities for our citizens to enjoy to help get them into the holiday spirit," Mayor William E. Cooper said. "Our city staff have been hard at work to ensure this signature event stays true to its traditions despite being held at an alternate location."
The 30-foot-tall Christmas tree will still be decorated with more 500 ornaments and 10,000 lights and will be placed in the festival field lot near the antique farm equipment. The tree lighting ceremony will include live entertainment, hot chocolate, cookies and special guests including the City of Enterprise Queens, the Who Crew from Whoville, and Santa Claus.
"Get ready to have a 'tree-mendous' time at our Christmas at the Market event with dozens of holiday vendors selling food, arts and crafts and even some fresh, seasonal produce," Tammy Doerer, director of tourism and community relations, said. "We are planning an even bigger and dare I say brighter event that we hope will dazzle our citizens and visitors alike."
Vendor market will open at 4 p.m. allowing shoppers to stroll through the Farmers Market pavilion where they can enjoy a variety of gifts from local vendors. The tree lighting ceremony will start at 6 p.m. with an invocation from Justin Mahan of Bethel Baptist Church. Pastor Eric Bradley of Church With U will deliver his version of the annual message, "The Reason for the Season." Special music will be performed by the Hillcrest Elementary School choir as well as Marge Simmons from Johns Chapel AME Church. Following the ceremony, Santa will have a special photo opportunity area set up for free photos.
"As always, this is a free event open to our entire community," Doerer said. "We hope you will gather your friends, family, and neighbors and help us spruce up the season at the Enterprise Farmers Market."
