(FOX40.COM) — The city of Citrus Heights has entered into a five-year partnership with Sacramento County so that Bradshaw Animal Shelter can provide animal control services.

The county announced the collaboration on its news website this week, but the partnership began in September. The agreement includes an option for renewal, the county said.

Sacramento asks that pets be vaccinated after rabid skunks found

Before the deal, Citrus Heights had been receiving animal control services from Placer County.

The new deal means that Sacramento County will provide shelter services, call and dispatch services through its 24-hour 311 Connect program, a complete pet hospital and a low-cost spay and neuter clinic, plus resources to Citrus Heights' Animal Services Officers for the care of animals.

Raccoons, opossums, skunks, birds, deer, and coyotes can all be found in the Sacramento area

Part of a statement from Citrus Heights Police Chief Alex Turcotte shared by the county says, "With...Bradshaw Animal Shelter, we will be able to enhance the level of care and service provided to our residents and their animals."

The Bradshaw Animal Shelter is located at 3839 Bradshaw Rd, Sacramento, CA 95827 , about 12 miles south of the city of Citrus Heights, and its phone number is (916) 368-7387.
