City approves execution of grant agreement
The Beatrice City Council approved a resolution executing the grant agreement necessary for the Nebraska Department of Economic Development Rural Community Recovery Grant Program.
City Administrator Tobias Tempelmeyer said this grant has a history.
"If any grant could tell stories, this would be the one," he said. "This is the grant we got for the Kensington through COVID money, and we had to turn it down along with every other community that got it because of the strings that were attached. They came out with a new grant, and we reapplied. This time they identified a number of playgrounds and recreational facilities. We identified $1.5 million and received $985,000."
The funds need to be spent by 2026.
Councilman Terry Doyle noted there were a lot of people involved with some creative thinking.
"Thank you very much for the people that put work into that," he said.
The resolution was passed unanimously.
