SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — City Beer Store, a beloved bottle shop and tasting bar in the city's Mission District, has announced it will be closing its doors after 18 years.

The shop, located at 853 Valencia Street, will officially close on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 20 and 21, with limited hours from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

In a statement posted on their website Thursday, owners Craig and Beth Wathen expressed their sadness about the closure. "There is simply no easy way to say these words, and the more we worked on a note to say goodbye, the more muddled it became," they wrote. "This is not what we hoped for the little store we opened in 2006, and it's not the choice we wanted to make, but it's the choice we felt had to be made. The circumstances that led to this difficult decision are vast, and we cannot point to one issue. It's a combination of many factors we couldn't overcome, despite trying so very hard...City Beer has always been more than a bar and bottleshop, City Beer has been a home."
