City of Huntsville warns of new scam targeting owners of lost pets

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — There is a new scam going around that targets those who have lost pets, according to the city.

The City of Huntsville posted Tuesday about a new scam. Huntsville Animal Services is alerting residents of a scam that targets pet owners who have lost their pets.

HAS has reportedly received tips of an individual who is contacting residents who have posted information online about lost pets, claiming to represent HAS and requesting money in exchange for returning the lost pet.

The city said to be advised the HAS will never ask for money to reunite lost pets with their owners.

If you receive a call or message like this, do not provide any personal information or payment. Instead, you are asked to contact HAS directly to report the incident and verify any communication regarding your pet.
