Foothill Country Day School in Claremont marked its 70th anniversary in a big way Thursday, Sept. 19 — by posing for an aerial art project.

Artist Daniel Dancer, who grew up in Rancho Cucamonga, visited the private school to create his unique Art for the Sky photograph shot from above by a drone.

Students dressed in various colors and posed on the field to form the school's new logo: a flying falcon.

The event involved more than 500 people, from preschoolers to eighth graders, and included employees. Students wore specific colors to form the falcon.

Children in preschool through first grade were in orange. Second, third and fourth graders donned light blue. Fourth, fifth and eighth graders were clad in navy. Sixth and seventh grades wore red. Guided by staff and parent volunteers, students took their places on a field marked with mulch in the shape of the falcon. As they crouched down, only their colorful shirts were visible from above.

A drone captured the scene from the sky, while students below wiggled excitedly before breaking into cheers and heading off to class celebrations.

"We are excited to bring Art for the Sky to Foothill Country Day School," Head of School Mike Silva said in a news release. "This unique experience will not only create an unforgettable memory for our students but also symbolize the power of collective creativity and the 30,000-foot view needed for the next generation of society's leaders. It's a perfect way to celebrate our school's legacy and values."
