CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — The fifth annual Pepperoni Roll 5K took place in Clarksburg on Saturday to raise funds for a local school.

The Clarksburg Children's House is a Montessori school that serves children from 18 months to nine years old. The 5K was founded five years ago to raise money for the school and celebrate one of the region's most famous foods. This year's 5K was the first to also have a Children's Fun Run, held after the main race.

Fundraising Chair for Clarksburg Children's House Kaitlin Walker helped organize the event. Walker has had three children attend school at the Clarksburg Children's House and looks to support it in any way she can.

"We are doing this event to raise money for the school and for various causes," Walker said. "For class materials, teacher education, scholarships."

The 5K said that over 200 runners participated and that the event raised over $12,000.

The first-place runners for the 5K won a bag of mini pepperoni rolls from Tomaro's Bakery and a certificate, while the winners of the Children's Fun Run took home a trophy and a T-shirt.
