Coach Kaufmann reflects on PSJA North’s 9-1 regular season
PHARR, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The PSJA North football program produced more than a handful of players that took their talents to the collegiate level following the 2023 school year.
The loss of talent made the program's leader, head coach Marcus Kaufmann, feel unsure about what to expect this year.
"Early in year we were better than I thought we were," Kaufmann said.
His Raiders opened the season with non-district wins over San Benito and PSJA.
The Raiders eventually put together a 9-1 regular season en route to winning a share of the District 15-5A Division I title.
PSJA North's only loss came against one of the best teams in the Coastal Bend, Flour Bluff, in overtime.
"I feel like we're in a good place, "Kaufmann said. "Not winning Bluff game made us look at ourselves and how we handle certain situations. We were able to work on that. We won that last game of season and we got Palmview. We got to go in there and act like it's the Super Bowl."
The Raiders' bi-district round playoff game against Palmview will be played on Friday at PSJA Stadium. Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
