NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) — A ribbon cutting took place Wednesday in New Bern for a place that helps people through many different services.

The Coastal Center for Hope and Healing, formally known as the Coastal Women's Shelter, opened up operations in a new location.

Some of the services they provide for men and women are domestic and sexual violence support groups, help for stalking and harassment victims and so much more.

"This organization has been in business for almost 40 years now, but a lot of folks didn't know that they could come to us for services, as our old name was very limiting to be able to serve the community," Executive Director of Coastal Center for Hope and Healing Amanda Delgado said. "The re-branding allows us to share with folks that we are here for all individuals. It does not matter how you identify or your background. If you are going through a violent situation, or sexual assault, we are here to help you get through that."

Delgado said she grew up in a home with domestic violence and now, in her role at the center, she uses her past experiences to provide support to others who may be in similar or worse situations across Craven, Jones and Pamlico counties.
