Colchester railway station's car park top deck to be demolished

S.Wright40 min ago
The first-floor of a car park at a city's main railway station is to be demolished for safety reasons.

Train company Greater Anglia has announced demolition work would begin at Colchester [North] on Monday and be completed during December.

The upper deck has been closed since July after engineers expressed safety concerns.

Next year, a new section of road and a walkway around the car park will be added.

Simone Bailey, Greater Anglia's asset management director, apologised for any inconvenience.

"We know many people choose to park at our station, and this essential work will improve the car park at Colchester," she said.

Greater Anglia said drivers could still use the rest of the car park and it had no concerns about a lack of capacity.
