A.Davis3 months ago

Up just one point after three quarters, the King’s women’s basketball team again closed strong en route to an 89-76 win over visiting Stevens on Wednesday at the Scandlon Center.

The Monarchs outscored the Ducks 26-14 in the fourth to continue their early surge in MAC Freedom play, improving to 3-0 in the conference. They had previously outlasted Eastern and nationally ranked DeSales for hard-fought wins to open the league schedule.

Rebecca Prociak turned in another strong performance, finishing with 29 points and a career-high 20 rebounds to go with four assists and a block. Mackenzie Yori added 23 points and Samantha Rajza scored 19.

DeSales 70, Wilkes 55

Reigning league champ DeSales shook off an impressive 17-12 start by the host Colonels, outscoring Wilkes 21-4 in the second quarter to pick up the win.

Maddie Kelley led the way for the Colonels with a double-double, finishing with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Gianna Roberts had 14 points and six boards.

Wilkes’ doubleheader at Eastern scheduled for Saturday has been moved up to Friday at 5 p.m. for the women and 7 p.m. for the men because of snow in the weekend forecast.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

DeSales 79, Wilkes 74

First-place DeSales’ depth helped the Bulldogs erase a first-half deficit and beat Wilkes on the road with the help of 39 points off the bench.

Wilkes pulled within 61-59 with 2:35 left but could not get closer. Rob Pecorelli scored 24 points while Noah Jackson set a new career-high with 13 points off the bench for the Colonels. Jake Robel added 12 points.

Stevens 76, King’s 60

The visiting Ducks shots 48.5% from the floor to win their inaugural MAC Freedom matchup with the Monarchs.

King’s shot just 28.6%, including a 5-of-31 showing from behind the arc while losing the battle on the boards 53-39. Brad Kalinowski scored nine points to lead the Monarchs.

MU games postponed

A pregame mishap meant that Misericordia’s bus trip to Doylestown ended without any basketball being played.

Delaware Valley announced Wednesday that “a broken backboard during warm-ups” caused the postponement of the men’s/women’s doubleheader against the Cougars. The games will now be made up today at Misericordia’s Anderson Center, with the men opening the action at 5 p.m. followed by the women at 7 p.m.

The Feb. 5 doubleheader originally scheduled to be played at Misericordia will now be hosted by the Aggies.
