The Colona Fire Department is launching a campaign to get smoke alarms into more homes during Fire Prevention Week. The department offering a no cost smoke detector installation program for Colona residents. Working smoke detectors cut the risk of dying in a home fire by more than half. Experts say three out of five fire deaths come from a home where there are no working smoke detectors.

Watch the video above to hear how fire cadets play a big part in the program. Smoke detectors should be in every bedroom and on each level of a home. They should be tested once a month and replaced every 10 years.
