Colorado road conditions: Heavy snow causes crashes, closures Wednesday

Update 9:10 a.m.: Denver-bound U.S. 36 has reopened at Colorado 157 and Foothills Parkway, near Boulder and Lousiville, after an early morning crash, CDOT officials said.

Eastbound I-70 also reopened around 9:05 a.m. at Colorado Mills Parkway in Lakewood after a multi-vehicle crash, CDOT officials said.

Update 8:47a.m.: Eastbound I-70 remains closed in Lakewood before West Colfax Avenue after a multi-vehicle crash near Denver West Marriott Boulevard, police said . Police said they do not have an estimated reopening time for the interstate.

Both Arapahoe County and Douglas County are now on accident alert, according to sheriff's officials. Anyone involved in a non-injury accident with no drugs or alcohol should exchange information with the other driver and file the accident report online .

Update 8:25 a.m.: Eastbound Interstate 70 is closed between Limon and Burlington, just 13 miles west of the Colorado-Kansas border, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation .

CDOT officials said the road is closed for "safety concerns" amid the ongoing snowstorm and blizzard-like conditions across the plains. No estimated time of reopening was available Wednesday morning.

Snow-caused crashes have also shut down southbound Colorado 83 between Walden Way and Hodgen Road near Colorado Springs, U.S. 24 in both directions in Peyton between Peyton Highway and Smith Ranch Road, and Colorado 17 in both directions near Alamosa at County Road 109.

Information about the number of cars involved or an estimated time of reopening was not available, but multiple Waze users reported a "major" accident and standstill traffic in the area.

Eastbound I-70 is closed at Exit 263 for Colorado Mills Parkway in Lakewood for a crash, CDOT officials said . As of 7:45 a.m., CDOT was reporting up to 20-minute delays on the eastbound interstate.

Information about the number of cars involved or an estimated time of reopening was not available, but Waze users reported traffic delays between the exits for U.S. 6 and West Colfax Avenue.
