Colston Loveland just missed playing in Michigan's conference-opening win this weekend against . Now, the Wolverines' tight end and leading receiver could be back in the lineup as early as this week.

Sherrone Moore provided an update on Loveland's status during his press conference on Monday . He said that he's much improved from where he was after exiting versus Arkansas State with an injury to his arm. He also revealed that he nearly appeared this last weekend against the Trojans before they were cautious with him.

"Yeah, we'll see," said Moore. "Doing better. Doing a lot better."

"Close to playing last Saturday but felt that, you know – doctors felt it would be in the best interest that he not," Moore shared.

Loveland, the junior tight end for the maize & blue, had a career-best start to the season over his first three games. He has caught 19 passes for 187 yards and a touchdown in that time with him still having seven more receptions and triple the yardage of the next pass catcher for the Wolverines despite missing last weekend's game. The eight receptions apiece in the first two games set and tied a career-best for him as well.

Getting Loveland back will be very impactful in how Michigan develops any kind of pass attack this fall. With their switch from Davis Warren to Alex Orji at quarterback , their offense was already heading to a more run-centric approach. Remove Loveland from the lineup against USC and they then focused even more so on that aspect as they threw just a dozen passes in comparison to 46 rushes for 290 yards and three touchdowns.

There's still nothing certain yet about Loveland coming into this week but Moore was more optimistic about it in regards to their top target being available this weekend against .

"We're at a positive pass right now so we'll see," Moore said.
