The U.S. Senate election in Pennsylvania between Democratic incumbent Sen. Bob Casey and Republican David McCormick is headed for a statewide recount, as counties continued Wednesday to sort through outstanding ballots and the campaigns jousted over which ones should count. The Associated Press called the race for McCormick last week, concluding that not enough ballots remained to be counted in areas Casey was winning for him to take the lead. A noon deadline passed Wednesday for Casey to waive his right to a statewide recount and Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro's top election official, Secretary of State Al Schmidt, a Republican, announced that preliminary results had triggered a legally required statewide recount.

Donald Trump landed in Washington Wednesday to celebrate Republicans' soon-to-be control over the White House and Congress, and visit lame-duck President Joe Biden in person. Trump and Biden were seated in chairs next to each other by a crackling fire in the Oval Office for a photo opportunity ahead of their first official transition meeting. "Politics is tough and in many cases it's not a nice world but it is a nice world today," Trump said in their roughly one-minute appearance before cameras.

Trump loyalist and former television anchor Kari Lake has lost her battle in the U.S. Senate race in Arizona to Democrat Ruben Gallego, according to projections from multiple outlets including the Associated Press and The Washington Post. The Post said Gallego was leading Lake with more than 94 percent of the vote counted by Monday night. The announcement is the last to be called in the Senate race of the 2024 election and represents a small victory for Democrats, who were hoping to clinch the s

President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump met in the Oval Office for nearly two hours on Wednesday, resuming a hallmark of America's peaceful transfer of power that Trump himself flouted in 2020. President Biden spoke first, calling for a "smooth transition" and telling Trump he would do "everything we can to make sure you're accommodated." "Politics is tough, and it's, in many cases, not a very nice world but it is a nice world today," Trump said.

Former Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) weighed in on President-elect Trump's decision to tap Fox News host Pete Hegseth as his Defense chief, suggesting he will be "easily confirmed." "I dare any Republican senator to vote against him," Chaffetz told Fox News's Laura Ingraham. "That is not in their best interest." "And we need to get...
