The Washington Commanders are stepping into the national spotlight.

As the team hits the road for week three of the NFL season, they are setting their sights on Cincinnati for a showdown with the Bengals on Monday Night Football.

Players are embracing the opportunity to introduce the nation to this new era of Commanders football.

"Everybody might not know about us now, but by the end of it, everybody is going to know who we are, for sure," running back Brian Robinson said.

"As a defense, we definitely want to be known as a defense that is physical and flies around and hits people, so we have to go out there and continue to put that on tape," defensive lineman Jonathan Allen said.

Washington is coming off its first win of the season, a 21-18 victory over NFC-East foe, New York Giants.

Kicker Austin Seibert scored all of the team's 21 points, despite the offense managing to get into the red zone on the majority of its drives.

"I really feel like we're getting there, we're close," offensive lineman Sam Cosmi said. "We had two weeks of really getting to learn each other. Offensively, we're just that close. When all pistons are firing at the same time, we're rolling."

"We stopped ourselves," Robinson added. "We just need to clean up those areas, especially in those critical times."

For some players, like rookie wide receiver Luke McCaffrey, Monday will mark his first primetime action. After years of watching Monday Night Football-and watching his brother Christian in the primetime spotlight-McCaffrey said it will be surreal to finally be a part of the action.

"It's something you come home from school after practice and turn on," McCaffrey said. "I think just from the process of the team, we're in such a good spot. We're so excited to continue to learn and build from where we're at right now."

The Commanders and Bengals kick off Monday Night Football at 8:15 on 7News.
