WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) — State leaders and community members held gun buy-back events in towns all over Connecticut.

The events are aimed at increasing community safety by offering residents a secure and anonymous way to dispose of firearms. Participants received gift cards for their donations.

News 8 spoke with Connecticut Against Gun Violence advocate Franck Adjisegbe at the Waterbury buy-back event where he said, "We think it's a sure way, really, to reduce accidental gunfire at homes and stuff like that, so we're all very excited to be here this morning."

More than 350 biometric gun safes were also handed out to ensure responsible gun owners keep their weapons locked away and stored safely in the home.
