Community urged to attend Saturday benefit as baby Hudson continues fight with Leukemia
WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — After a life-changing diagnosis at just 9 months old, the community continues to rally behind little Hudson Hughes.
Hughes, diagnosed with Leukemia on July 5, 2024, will have a benefit in his honor this Saturday, November 9, at the Warehouse in downtown Wichita Falls.

"Some friends reached out to us, and we kind of got together and decided that we wanted to do this benefit for the Hughes family," his aunt, Chelsie Powell, said.
The baby, now wrapping up chemotherapy and facing radiation and a bone marrow transplant, will feel the love all the way at Cook Children's, thanks to extensive community support.
"We started reaching out to local businesses, friends, family and stuff like that to start getting some donation items in for the live, silent auction," Powell said. "Family and friends are coming together and helping with cooking all the fish."
Complete with a fish fry, auctions, a bake sale, and more. Even strangers standing behind tiny Hughes.
"It means a lot to us. We have had people just reach out to us through Facebook, text messaging, stuff like that, saying that they want to donate to the family," she said, tearfully. "People that we haven't talked to in years reaching out to us. It's been very overwhelming but amazing."
The little fighter, standing strong in his first battle.
"The first few days, weeks, not knowing," Powell said. "It's amazing to see what such a little, tiny human can go through and still be happy.'
Powell said that out of the 125 days since Hughes' diagnosis, only 17 of those have been spent at home.
"We would like for people to come out to be able to support the family whether you know any of the friends and family, or you just want to come to help them in any way," she said. "A lot of the family is going to be there, and hopefully, we'll get to talk and just relax and have fun."
